Commission a Sacred Drum

A Sacred Drum is a ritual ally for spiritual use.

It is always an honor to aid in the creation of a sacred drum through ritual for someone; whether that be in the context of a ritual workshop or as a commissioned piece.

Creating a commissioned Sacred Drum is a process that does not happen quickly. My many years of drum making have taught me that spirit is alive in a sacred drum and I have learned to respect that there are specific things must be taken into account in the creation of each drum.

Optimum energetic timing is very important and may be dictated by the season, a specific day of the year, the moon cycle or planetary alignments. Other essential considerations include honoring the ancestors, spiritual allies, animals, deities and elements of the person who will be using the drum.

All of this, and more, are considerations that go into choosing the correct timing for ushering the spirit of a drum into the world for sacred use.

The Process

When you commission me to create a drum for you, it is an interactive process. We begin with a 30-minute consultation so that I may understand your needs and desires. I’ll want to know what energies you work with in order to to know what is needed in the ritual process of manifesting the magick of your drum. You will most likely be instructed to make offerings, and possibly perform a ritual as well as meditate on the drum.

I, too, will meditate on the information you provide and ask the drum spirit for its timing.  All of this may take several months, depending upon the energies needed for alignment to allow the drum to emerge.

It is a birth process and as such there is a gestation period.

And, just as some birth processes are more challenging than others, the same may be true for your drum.  A challenging birth may require us to connect again and delve more deeply into exploring energetic alignments.

My hands act as a midwife to the drum birth, by way of facilitating alignment between the receiver and the instrument.

After drum is born, I’ll reach out and send a photo. Before shipping it to you, the hide and any paint must dry completely. This may take several more days.

When you receive your drum, it will include instructions for a drum opening ceremony.

If you would like to know more, please do not hesitate to contact me. I will be happy to answer any of your questions and discuss the process in greater detail, as well as pricing.

I thank you, in advance, for the opportunity to serve in this sacred work.

A Testimonial

The first time I heard chants and felt drumming in my bones, I was home! I had never had a particular call to drumming before but now I was on fire with searching for the right one.

Nothing seemed quite right. Then I remembered that Matooka had made many of her own drums (far more than I had realized at the time). I approached her with what was in my heart. I needed a drum to be my sister and help me along this path.

Stephanie’s commissioned drum

It had to be something that could be passed on one day. This had to be a sacred drum created in sacred ways, so much more than “just an instrument” this wasn’t meant to be a “tool” this was to be my partner, long before I knew how to truly meet my tools and gain their partnership.

Matooka immediately understood my goals and counseled me on materials etc. She was the essence of professional being very transparent about material and pricing. She was also an excellent mentor and included me in regular updates on progress of the drum as well as how to ritually meet the spirit of the drum and consecrate it.

This beauty has the most wonderful song and guides me every time we work together.

If anyone seeks to have a sacred drum made I would absolutely send them to Matooka without hesitation. I would also tell them to be on the lookout for those rare chances to take her drum making workshop. Each experience is unique and amazing.
